Ongoing Honors Discussion, Rationale, and Work List
6. Annotated Bibliography (example at end) Annotated Bibliography Due February 10th Habits of Mind: Curiosity, Craftsmanship, Critical Thinker An annotated bibliography looks like a works cited page with one paragraph descriptions of each source under each citation. At minimum, annotated bibliographies answer the following questions about each source:
5. November 30th-December 2nd Answer these questions in a presentation format to discuss with the rest of the Honors students: What do you plan to accomplish? What is your mission? What is the problem you’ve identified to learn more about? Why do you want to do it? Why do you care? What background do you bring to this issue and your interest in it? How are you going to do it? What is your research plan? What sources are you going to look into? Note: This is meant to be a Q&A session, so participation and feedback is mandatory 4. November 28th-29th Your goal is to make a difference by solving real problem. Often we jump into solution mode before we truly understand the problem. Understanding complex problems requires in-depth knowledge of the issue. Your next assignment is to write up a research proposal to become an expert in your problem. A research proposal has three components that you will submit as a written report and discuss with the class. Written report is due Wednesday, November 30th, at the beginning of class. Failure to do this to the fullest of your ability will result in loss of Honor's credit for 1st semester. 1. What do you plan to accomplish? Be clear and succinct in defining the research problem and what it is you are proposing to research. 2. Why do you want to do it? In addition to detailing your research design, you also must conduct a thorough review of the literature and provide convincing evidence that it is a topic worthy of study. Be sure to answer the "So What?" question. 3. How are you going to do it? Be sure that what you propose is doable. 3. November 21st-22nd: Go back through your question walls Answer those questions posed by classmates. If you can't answer a question, explain why, and what you would have to do to answer it. 2. November 7th-11th: Create a new document inside your artifact box called “Question Wall.” Ensure that anyone with a DCSD email can edit this. Look through and engage with the material in all student’s “Artifact Boxes” and write at least three questions on their "Question Wall" about their topics. You can ask your own or, if possible, build off previous questions by other students. WHY? This opens up new avenues of thought that can lead to new ideas that might not have otherwise been thought of if you were working totally by yourself. It also gives all students a chance to know what others are working on which will enhance collaboration opportunities and build a cohesive culture between all students on the Honor’s path. 1. Honors Artifact Boxes (October 28th): Use this google doc page to link your folders. Please make sure they are editable by anyone with a DCSD email.
